Mr. Tanner helps solve business disputes. He employs many tools, including negotiation, alternative dispute resolution, and both traditional and atypical litigation tactics. He has represented clients in all aspects of commercial litigation, including contract disputes, receiverships, intellectual property, and construction matters. Mr. Tanner currently represents Microsoft in its anti-piracy work, the receiver in the Indian Motorcycle receivership (the receivership succeeded in resolving decades-old conflicting claims to the Indian® Motorcycle trademark), and is on the team that challenged enforcement of Amendment 41 in Colorado.

Mr. Tanner has practiced with Fairfield and Woods since 1987 and was Chairman of the Firm's litigation department from 2000 to 2005. Prior to private practice, Mr. Tanner served as law clerk to Justice (later Chief Justice) Luis Rovira of the Colorado Supreme Court. He is on the CBA Ethics Committee and is a frequent lecturer on legal ethics, particularly for in-house counsel. He is the commissioner of the Denver Bar Association softball league. He is active in Rice University's alumni activities in Colorado and writes its alumni newsletter.

Mr. Tanner was born in Salina, Kansas. He enjoys playing bridge, softball, and basketball, collecting animation art, and acting as the Firm's unofficial movie critic.
