Alternative Energy

Fairfield and Woods is at the forefront of the new energy economy. We represent numerous growing businesses in every segment of alternative energy, including batteries, biofuels, electric vehicles, electrolytes, smart grid, energy efficiency contracting, energy efficiency software, lighting technologies, and solar and wind.

We apply our substantial contacts in the financial community to assist clients in raising angel capital, venture capital and institutional funding. When it comes time to sell or move to the next level, we assist clients in obtaining loan facilities with major lenders and in forming strategic alliances with major players in the world of new energy. In addition, we perform legal services for electric power providers at every point in the value chain: generation, transmission and distribution, including representation before federal and state regulatory agencies. We also provide advice regarding risk management, intellectual property protection and human resource matters. Should disputes arise, our litigation team has experience assisting clients in a wide variety of matters.

Our attorneys have been involved in a number of energy organizations.  We sit on the board of Recharge Colorado, which seeks to partner public and private interests in energy and water efficiency projects. We were a founding member and sponsors of the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association and a sponsor of CleanLaunch.  We participate in the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation’s Colorado Energy Coalition and are members of the Energy Bar Association, an international, nonprofit association of attorneys, non-attorney professionals and students active in all areas of energy law.
