I know when to litigate and when to settle. I don’t need a courtroom to win. Just the room.

Bio

Whether litigating or mediating, Josh cuts through complexity to get cases resolved and clients back to business.

Trial Advocacy
With more than 15 years of experience in complex litigation, Josh helps clients resolve disputes strategically, efficiently, and with purpose. Whether leading high-stakes trials or guiding clients through conflict-ridden contract matters, he brings clarity, creativity, and control to every matter.

Josh has served as lead counsel in numerous jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations involving business disputes, breach of contract, real estate matters, construction defects, fraud, employment claims, and professional liability. He represents CEOs, business owners, shareholders, developers, designers, contractors, licensed professionals, and franchisees in high-stakes litigation across Colorado and beyond.

Known by clients and colleagues as the “opposing counsel whisperer,” Josh is recognized for his ability to disarm tension and create openings for resolution, often where none seemed possible. He combines courtroom acumen with emotional intelligence, helping clients move through conflict with confidence. Over his career, he has successfully resolved hundreds of cases, many without setting foot in a courtroom.

Mediation Services
In addition to his litigation practice, Josh now serves as a mediator in a wide range of civil disputes. He offers private mediation services for matters involving malpractice, personal injury, contract disputes, real estate, construction, employment, partnership disputes, and other civil issues. With extensive experience on both sides of the table, he quickly gets to the heart of a case, builds trust, and guides parties towards a practical resolution. Whether pre-litigation, mid-dispute, or on the eve of trial, Josh brings a calm, focused presence that maintains momentum and keeps resolution in sight.

Professional Background and Community Involvement
Immediately prior to joining Fairfield & Woods, Josh served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Colorado, where he advised regulatory boards and tried cases, including a closely watched campaign finance trial. He has also held senior litigation roles at several prominent Denver firms, where he represented institutional clients in complex commercial, malpractice, and construction matters.

Josh’s legal career began defending physicians and professionals in high-stakes malpractice litigation. He developed a reputation for both strategic advocacy and practical resolution, handling trials and countless negotiated settlements.

Josh’s commitment to service extends beyond the courtroom. He served on the Board of Trustees for the Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado for nearly a decade and is a current board member of the Denver Bar Association. He is a graduate of Leadership Denver (Class of 2020) and the Colorado Bar Association’s Leadership Training Program (COBALT).

During a two-year stay in the United Kingdom, Josh volunteered with Citizens Advice, providing legal guidance on housing, employment, and public benefits. He also contributed over 300 hours as a steward with the National Health Service (NHS), supporting the UK's COVID-19 vaccination campaign and assisting vulnerable individuals during lockdowns.

In recognition of his commitment to the Denver community, Josh was named a Pro Bono Hero by the Denver Bar Association in 2018 and has been repeatedly recognized as a Colorado Super Lawyers Rising Star. He was also nominated multiple times for the Denver Business Journal’s Forty Under 40.

Outside the Office
Josh brings the same energy and curiosity to life outside of work. He is a former college athlete and soccer captain, weightlifting enthusiast, world traveler, and amateur comic, i.e., occasionally taking the stage to perform stand-up comedy. He and his wife, Bridget, met on a dating app, got married in Ouray, Colorado, and enjoy spoiling their two dogs, Ollie and Figgy, and exploring far-flung corners of the globe whenever they can.
